Amen, to what Tim H. said. I never had a thing disturbed while I was gone from camp - sometimes for as much as 12 hours. I guess that I always assumed that a person has never set foot in my camp while I was gone. I know I never have even considered it myself.

People may paddle by looking for a campsite but when they see it's taken (from their canoe) they paddle on. From the canoe, people can't tell if someone is in camp or not. I think that it is assumed that even if you're not there you're probably not far away.

I also agree with Tim's comment on the parking lot. There people assume the owner of the vehicle won't be back for quite awhile. Securing you vehicle for the trip home should be of much more concern.
