Meg: I don't know of any good canoe maps of Quetico/BWCA easily available on the Web. There are some places where you can view aerial photographs of the US side of your trip that show a small part of the Canadian piece as well. If you go to http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.asp?S=15&T=1&X=96&Y=831&Z=15&W=1 you will find yourself roughly centered on an aerial view of Prairie Portage. You'll be able to see your American journey and the southern part of your Canadian journey here. You can click on a point in the image to zoom in and center your selection or use the other menu choices for other controls. You can zoom in to a 1 meter per screen pixel resolution image, and that's not bad. Compare this image to your maps to orient yourself. There are also some other aerial photographs offered by the Minnesota DNR that partially overlap Canada available at http://www.ra.dnr.state.mn.us/photos/photos_init.html It gets a bit complicated, but the hard copies you can buy are significantly better than what you can see on-line. I don't think links work well on this site, but if you cut and paste the link into your browser, you should get there. …Tom Posted by Tom Swulius on January 08, 2000 at 02:48 In reply to: Re: Route ideas posted by Meg on January 07, 2000 at 19:36 |
