I've not been up in the east end of Carp Lake. But there is a nice campsite before you get there , located on the small point just pass the island where the lake narrows. I have been on all the portages in that area, all the way up to Silver Falls.
I don't recall any cliff on Emerald Lake but there may be some. The small island in the middle of the lake has a very well protected campsite though. The lake does have a green color to it. When you get up on Plough Lake there are some steep hills and cliffs. The portage from Plough to Ottertrack is difficult to find.
