Re: Your wish is my command

Speaking for myself, you and I first talked a few months ago when you first tested the waters with advertising your site on this bb. At that time, in my humble and single opinion, I was ok with it if it was done discreetly and tastefully...and I feel it was. I am major impressed with your willingness to ask the group their opinions...most people with a vested interest to gain would blunder ahead and local opinion be damned. I really respect your approach and I think your GORP site is excellent a very worthwhile addition to one's desktop shortcuts or favorites listing. Now that I have more time to think on your initial reaquest, on a larger scale however, in terms of setting standards of acceptance...all of us here are faced with the age old dilema regarding where does one draw the line on commercializing and spamming a bb site. I am tempted to revert to the standard attitude that once we let one person or entity advertise, how do we say no to all the others that may come along? In spite of your respectful approach to this touchy subject, Ian, maybe with regards to the long term picture, perhaps it is best that you don't promote your site here. One hates to say no to people like yourself who seem to do things the right way with the best of intentions at heart, but once we open the barn door...how many other critters are going to want to come in?? Just food for thought, I for one would have to vote a very reluctant, no...but only because of concerns regarding the long-term hassles the group could encounter down the road with other wanna be advertisers. You are cool, Ian...keep doing what you all are doing at GORP...a great site in my opinion!!!
