Last year I was able to save up some money to buy a G-Loomis rod and used it for the first time on my Sept 99 trip to Quetico. I was use to the combo specials you can buy at the local stores and was very happy with my decision to spend a little extra money on a good rod a reel. I started out using mono the first day but after breaking the line a few times I changed to Fire Line and stayed with it the rest of the trip. That was the first trip I ever felt good about my equipment holding up for the entire trip. I was very impressed with both the rod and fishing line. Other than fire line being more sensitive, I found it easier to cast. Especially the distance which the lure traveled. The first few cast to the shore landed me in the woods but once I got use to it I loved it. Until I find something better I will stay with fire line. Good luck on your next trip.
