Re: Walleye Tips

As much as I enjoy exposing Skip's tendencies to dramatize the mundane, I have to admit I was on that self same trip to Carp when he slew the wily Walleye with his trusty Spook. I was just crawling into my bag that night when I heard the racket in the water. Reaching the narrows next to him I asked to borrow one of his Spooks. I then threw the darn thing into the darkness, only to hear a "crunch" instead of a "splash". The next voice I heard merely commented, "Russell, you idiot".
Well, I also, relieving Skip of another Spook, caught surface Walleye. Besides a full moon that week, I think that was also the week of a lunar eclipse. I'll have to check the tables.
The largest Walleye I ever caught was on a rapidly retrieved RattleTrap in BackBay
during a really frigid end of May. I've also caught them in early evenings with a floating or shallow-diving Rapala coaxed back at a medium retrieve over rocks toward shore. It works every time; except, whenever any one else is around. I probably learned that from Skip.
RockHead.
addendum: Skip still loans me lures.
