I agree with Jesse.

They're cheap and no matter what (unless you're knee deep in water) your feet will stay dry.

In all times of the year, this is important as cold, wet feet are miserable.

Rubber boots have good grip (get plyable bottoms), and whether you're stuck on a beaver dam or just pushing off at a muddy portage you're feet stay dry. Also they clean up very well which allows for nice packing on those warm days you want to throw your sandals on.

Definately a good choice.
