I talked to Don McKenzie about that just yesterday. He said that since Canada doesn't stock the lakes, there was never any reason for anyone to do any sounding. Hence... no maps.

Years ago I took a magic green box along. (The original green fish finders.) It was very interesting to get a feel for the depths in various lakes. It added a whole new dimension. I'd do it again but cringe when I think of the added weight. I take too much heavy stuff as it is. I need to draw the line somewhere. At this point one can only guess how deep a lake is by it's color, fish, surrounding typography, and experience. Not to mention some line and a chunk of lead. That's part of the alure. I miss knowing for sure though.

Anyone that uses electronics AND/OR remembers well enough to write down (draw) some of that information is certainly welcome to share :-) It would be a great additional feature for the portage database.
