Most minnow species have white bellies and dark backs, and the fish don't seem to have any trouble finding and eating them! Actually, I think most fishermen (including me) put too much emphasis on lure color. According to Al Lindner (of In-Fishermen fame), depth, speed, lure action, and lure size are all far more important than color. That's not going to stop me from bringing white, yellow, orange, chartreause, black, brown, smoke, blue, and cotton-candy colored jigs to the Quetico, though.
