I was fourteen when I took my first quetico trip. We went as far as Buckingham but stayed
mostly at a nice campsite on Rawn lake where the little stream from Art lake comes in. It's a great trip for kids. Not to tough, beautiful, tons of fish. I recommend it highly. We caught endless smallmouth and walleye in Art lake and in Rawn (just where the narrrows opens up). I hear there is still bear trouble around there and I highly recommend camping on the big island (about a third of a mile from shore in Rawn lake
It's not quite as nice as the site right where Art creek comes in, but it's better for avoiding the bears.)
That first trip was an experience I'll never forget, mostly because of being literally face to face with a big black bear ( no more than three feet, I smelled her breath). That was on the point campsite (Art and Rawn) We moved to the island after the bear kicked us out (in broad daylight I might add) and were bothered no more. Hope you have a great trip. Remember keep it easy for those kids and they will end up loving the wilderness for the rest of their lives.
