Looking for input on trips out of McKenzie/Ferguson onto the Cache River. Back in the 70's we took the portage, so labelled, from Ferguson to the Cache river. It was a glorified Moose trail culminating in a steep drop to a walk over swamp grass to the river.

A senior member of our crew who has been making trips to the Quetico since 1979 has not seen this part of the park. We'd prefer not to backtrack once we get in there. We also would prefer not to take the killer portage out of McKenzie.

Has anyone been back in that area in recent History? Any feedback on the state of the Cache River, is it passable?
Is it worth trying to find the portage?
