Re: Change of Pace

Wally,
Glad you enjoy the dialogue. Rockhead and I have a lot of fun together. He even shared his tickets for the formula 1 race here in Indy this past weekend.

But as a disclaimer, I bear absolutely no responsibility for Rockhead and Troutman.

Although now that you mention it, they did hit another reef this year. In their defense, the water was whitecapping from the wind, and they truly couldn't see the reef (or so unbiased witnesses report). However, this is not to say they wouldn't have run aground anyway.

I, too, enjoy reading others' comments.

We also base camp (mostly), but we also move every few days so we can see more of the park. Our moves aren't voyages, tho. If we move 2-3 miles, it's a major undertaking. Mostly, we go out as far as we want to go, then move back toward the pickup point.
Basically, we scout the areas we want to revisit on our way back. Then, we "slowly" (every 2-3 days) move camp to these places on our way back to the pickup point. This eliminates long trips and potential wind delays coming out - we don't have too far to travel coming out.
Sometimes we'll do a circle route, but not very often.

If you can convince your party to do a few relatively easy portages, you might travel the Falls Chain route. Good walleye fishing almost all along the route.
