For most of us, "back to nature" is a thought that crosses our minds when we paddle. And I agree that silva and topo add to that expirence. I was once showing someone how to use a map and compass. As I pointed out islands/rocks and thier corresponding references on the map., I impressed meself as to how accurate one could actually be. On a normal trip "close enough" is more that is required. I've noticed here and elsewhere that people sometimes say they they got "lost." How confused does one need to be to be considered lost? Not knowing exactly where you are? Not knowing where your going? I admit at times I was temporaly confused, especially on dark moonless nights :-) ... but "lost?" ...Never! Although the possibility exists - knock on wood.
