GREAT advice. Tom S. and I have been discussing this topic. My earlier trips were marked (or marred, I think now) by always wanting to see what's after the next portage.

I think I missed some of the point of wilderness travel. I'm much happier, now, when I take the time to watch a subtle sunset instead of whipping the water with Spooks (after I've been fishing for 10 hours). I still make casts, but I don't miss anything around me, now. MUCH better than 8-10 years ago.

I missed a lot in those days. Shame on me.
