Skip thanks for the info. I am not going to try to go up the against the rapids where Silver Falls pours into the Saganagons. I will be looking for the other portage into Lilypad. We have fished that area but I don't remember seeing the portage. We have seen a lot of moose back in that area of the lake. Just from the map Jasper Lake looks like a nice lake that would have good scenery and good fishing. When we return from our July 7 trip I will add these portages to the portage data base. That is if we can find the portage between Lilypad and the Saganagons. So you went backwards down the rapids into Saganagons! Two of the guys shoot these rapids every year they go on the trip to Saganagons. I don't believe they have ever made it without tipping over. I will have to inform them that I know of two guys that shoot these rapids backwards to make them more of a challange. I understand about the stability of a kevlar canoe(Wenonah). We were headed out thru Cache Bay early one mourning and it got a little rough. About half way across the wind picked up and the waves started comming cross way to the canoe. We made it to Gull Rock and got a break there from the waves. Then we paddled to the next island where I got a brillant idea while we sat in the protection of the island. Once we cleared the island we would turn our canoe so the waves were directly behind us and we would head to the shore of Cache point and when we got there the waves would be smaller because the shore line would cause them to break up. When we got to that shore line we would only have about 80 yds of paddling along the shore till we rounded the point. Some times brillant ideas turn into stupid ideas. The waves along that shore line were 3-4 ft high and coming cross ways to the canoe. We made it around Cache Point without swamping or being crushed on the shoreline. Another kevlar canoe story was when one of our party decided to get up early and go out by himself to get water for the day. He decided to take my wenonah canoe, which he had never paddled before. He went out without his PFD. Needless to say when he tried to pull in the 5 gal. container of water the canoe threw him out. The wind was blowing so that he could not swim fast enough to catch up to the drifting canoe. He was able to swim to the far shore of Saganagons and walk the shoreline untill the wind blew the canoe to shore. Sometimes our number is not up no matter how stupid we are. Thanks for the info.
