... my daughter Anne's journal on this site. She was 9 last summer and despite rain for 5 of our 9 days in Quetico, she also had a complete blast. She talks about the trip all the time. We took an 18 year old experienced paddler (my older daughter) and my 9 year old camper, but never a paddle trip. Both did fine, 9 year old spent hours and hours and hours and hours in her new gortex rain gear fishing. Why the "big water" concern in Quetico? There is not much whitewater, some open water if that's what you mean.. but at their ages, with life jackets of course, and an adult in stern of each boat, you shouldn't have a problem. Leave time and use good judgment. Stay in camp an extra day or two if need be.
