We need alittle help, a good bwca paddler and wilderness companion bought a used canoe, 17', fiberglass, with factory aluminum rails and one aluminum center brace, and someone had glassed 2X12 seats in it!(talk about heavy duty). Over all it is a good restoration project. We would like to know more about this kind of canoe. It has no name or markings on it. Does anyone recall a canoe with this type of fiberglass and aluminum combination. The canoe has a very flexable bottom and weights about 65 lbs. We plan to install ash cane seats and replace the brace with a good wood yoke. Fiberglass needs alittle work and we'll probably take the least inexpensive way out and apply a fexible epoxy paint instead of adding a gel coat. My main question is what were the original seats like? There is no apparant left-over holes or braces for them. Maybe it did'nt have any? Well, with a couple hundred dollars more and even more labor, we hope to float it into the bwca in June. Any thoughts are appreciated.
