I have no idea what kind of canoe you've got there, but it sounds like you are having a good time fixing it up. When you put in the yoke, why not rig it up so you can rig a sail? In the unlikely event that the wind is actually at your rear it would be nice to have something better than a tarp stretched between two paddles.
On the other hand, if you aren't going to trick your canoe out, why lug it all that way? I would guess the fuel cost alone just about pays for a rental. Not to mention the risk of 16 foot of canoe flying off the car-top on the interstate in MNPLS. Ouch!
