Careful with the brats. They are not the same as hard sausages and should not be treated as such. They're not smoked/cured or treated with nitrates or whatever.

While sometimes precooked, brats are still just ground pork and spices in a casing. Don't let the fact that there is no date on the package fool you. Name brand brat packaging isn't freshness dated because they get shipped frozen and are thawed (whenever, as needed) at the store.

Hard sausage travels extremely well, but treat your brats just like you would a steak.
