I second your statement: to each his own. I guess I would feel guilty if it was a 100 watt boom box and you couldn't sleep, or find any peace of mind at the other end of the lake, because we were having a good time. Believe me, I'm not likely to put much of dent in the fish population, even with a locator. It is more an issue of having money to spend, and not thinking of something else to spend it on.
I would just hope the tone of the conversation doesn't degenerate into an argument about what constitutes a wilderness experience. We used to make the portages in one trip, but now take two, and bring some items that we didn't think we needed before. Like lawn chairs, and canoe seats, and better sleeping pads. I'm not getting any younger, and if I want to lug a few more conveniences into the woods, well, you are entitled to laugh, but in your next breath don't ask how deep you need to fish for.....
