Re: poplar lake entry

We base camped on Horseshoe in 1998 for five days with day trips to Gaskin and Vista. All the portages in this area are pretty easy. Horseshoe is a very thin lake and any travelers will pass by your site. We stayed at
the site in the middle of the lake on the west shore. There was a lot of moose activity in the area including one bellowing at night about 50 feet behind our site and a bull
trying to chase off a yearling to get to it's mother (it was mid-November).

We caught a few walleye and northern across the bay along the shore (using leeches). We went into Vista (didn't catch any fish) and lunched on the far south site (nice site).
We also went into Gaskin (no fish there either). Gaskin is very pretty and very clear (water wise). There is a very nice site on eastern most island. I would also suggest trying to get to Winchell at least for a day trip. It is a very clear deep lake with beautiful surroundings (we visited it on another trip) - no walleye in this lake, just lakers and northern.

I made a map of our route with some highlights (it is a gif file). Post your email address if you would like me to send it to you.
