Muggsy, the rules are clear on this matter. You may pack firearms into the BWCA and you may fire them legally as long as you are well away from lakes, portages, campsites and do not endanger humans, property or wildlife. I have no clue what kind of explaining a person would have to do for actually shooting a bear. While I agree it doesn't make sense to carry 3 lbs of dead weight in I won't knock those who do, as it is legal and I respect the law. Are we demonizing the gun owner here or the non-lightweight packer? Either way, you open a dangerous can of worms when you criticize others habits... surely you don't cast stones?
