Good Points!

Yes, maybe "Summer Paper Route" character would be better. I took the 2 oldest boys canoeing in the backwaters of the Mississippi last year. The way the water level changes you never know if you will have to backtrack or portage.

I thought we could portage around a logjam when I looked at it on the map. Well, it turns out that it was a series of about 5 logjams on a little cut through an island (the Island now known as "Stingweed" island.) After bushwhacking through an acre of stinging nettles, I determined that my oldest nephew has grit and is well up for hard portages.

The younger, however, is not and the advice for easier protages is well taken. The oldest might be disappointed that it isn't as grueling as he would like (he's at that age where his testoterone is kicking in) but...hopefully the knot he'll develop between his shoulder blades will prove punishing enough!

And, yes, I want to avoid big water.

I sent off to the Quetico District manager today. I'll post good looking routes when I getthe material.

Thanks!
