I'm 35 and have been paddling around the Mississippi here on the East Coast of Iowa for nearly 20 years. I have always wanted to go to Quetico but something always bunches up my summers. Well, this year I'm using a stone tablet for my calendar of events. To further lock up a trip, I promised my 16 year old nephew we would go next year! So here are the players... I also have a 14 and 12 year old nephew (brothers to the 16 year old). Those two are not what I would call hard workers. Their father may want to go but probably can't the time off. Another uncle may want to go...but same deal as the father. Worst case scenario (also most likely) is that the four of us comprise a party of 2 canoes. Best case scenario (other than thier father and uncle coming) is to talk a 16 year old friend and/or a hard working friend of the 14 year old's into coming along. And here are the parameters... I want to go as remote as possible. I would like at least one bear of a portage (character building exercise), 7 day trip with 5 travel days and 2 goof off days. I'm thinking of going down baptism creek and back. Is that feasible? Any other suggestions? Thanks! Posted by hellifiknow on August 27, 2001 at 14:22 |
