Re: Lake Namakan

I have been on a several canoe trips out of the Ash River, and it does get lots of boat traffic. Many of the boaters seem to be unaware that their wakes can be trouble some for canoeists as the speed by at close range (20 meters or less). The weekends are awefull, but during the week you may find some solitude the farther north and east you get. If you do not mind some power boats, then Lac La Croix would be a good alternative. It is a huge lake in the same area, with lots of islands. There are a few outfitters that will shuttle you in so you would not have to portage. (www.anderson-outfitters.com)
