I was on Blackstone for a layover day on a Sag - Man Chain - Cache Bay trip similar to the one you mention about 4 or 5 years ago. Didn't fish so have no info on that. We camped on a generally east-and-north-facing point along the south shore (I believe it was under the word "Blackstone" on the #26 Mackenzie map, but I didn't mark it.) It was an average campsite, but there was a better looking one on an island or point to the north of us (occupied when we first hit the lake) that we envied slightly, although not enough to move when it became free. This was early June and we only saw one other party over a few days. If you do spend time on Blackstone, don't miss exploring the back bay at the west end. If you ditch the boat and walk south way up the creek at the south end of the bay, there is a filled-in pond with the largest abandoned beaver lodge you have ever seen in your life. I mean HUGE. Well worth a modest hike. Another highlight of this area was coming out to the northeast down the creek instead of through Slate Lake (I haven't tried the lake route). If you like creek experiences as I do, this is really fine territory. There was a series of beaver dam lift-overs, can't remember if the portages were necessary in June or not.
