Ken- I entered Wicksteed through Gratton in 1993 with my son. If my memory serves, we had no trouble timewise making it to Wicksteed. The 239 rod portage was difficult but not too bad. We did have some trouble when we decided to float through the smaller rapids between two of the lakes. I'm not very experienced in whitewater with a fully loaded canoe and I remember wishing for a couple of seconds that we had portaged around them. I should know better in a wilderness setting but no one has ever accused me of being overly smart. You should also consider pushing through to Darky since that campsite in Darky near the Wicksteed portage is so much nicer than the campsites on Wicksteed that I am familiar with The portage between Wicksteed and Darky is so easy that it isn't a factor if you want to spend alot of time in Wicksteed.
