As a time-saver, if budget permits, I would use a tow to the back bay portage, take the portage into Pipestone bay & follow shorelines to Basswood River. Take a break at Upper Basswood Falls(beautiful). Be cautious proceeding down river & take portages. Lower B Falls is another beauty & a good place to regroup before proceeding down Crooked(more like a river than a lake, see the pictos, then head up Moose bay. Camp there(great smallmouth action). Day 2 Head up to McIntyre (lakers,walleyes early&late in day, bass). Layover & fish. Head to Burt(more of same). Daytrips to Marj & Joyce. Head back to Sarah & Tuck. Exit either the way you came in or shuttle vehicles to Mudro & go out thru Horse River & Lake. The final portage will test your resolve to get out for a shower(heart attack hill). Have fun!!
