DB, I've seen the portage on two different maps. One is a 1967 Fisher Company map used by Beymer in the back of his "Paddler's Guide" to Quetico. Perhaps noteworthy, however, is the "disclaimer" appearing in small print (bottom left) which says "not to be used for navigational purposes." The Antoine/Lonely portage also appears on a map of similar vintage buried somewhere in my basement. Perhaps one of my kids "penciled" the portage in.... I wonder if that 1928 map is the same one used by those guys in the BWJ story appearing in this Spring's edition? If I make it to Antoine this year I think I'll exit via the well-worn trail down to Sturgeon Narrows. We landed a whopper there a few years back... a 200 pound guy, somewhat blue but still kicking, fortunately. Just past ice-out is a rough time to spill & go swimming.
