Re: Spider Line

The no-stretch braids have their place but I still use mono. Fireline can get "frayed" and I lost a big pike one time by thinking a few frays don't matter. They do! Also, the hard braids do a number on rod guides after a while. For trolling they are good if you have to have an exact depth in mind. For Quetico, etc. this is over kill. Also, you need a limber rod to cushion a strike and for playing fish, or a loose drag. You can rip a lure right out of a fishes mouth without some "give". I use 10 pound Trilene Big Game on a casting rod for trolling for lakers with Shad Raps, spoons, etc. Good line and very inexpensive. Kind of amazing really, when you compare line prices. Also, and not to support WalMart necessarily. but Wal-Mart can be an excellent place to buy fishing lures, line, etc...if you know what you are buying. You are lucky indeed to find a sporting goods employee there who knows what they are doing. There are a few here in St. Louis, but I buy mostly plastic lures there, Chompers, PowerBait, etc. Great prices. Not everything at Wal-Mart is junk.
