Of course we are above it. A few miles depending... Actually I think kicking is a pretty good idea if it works. Don't forget to pack an Ace bandage. 40 stumps at one site? Your feet must have been sore! Were they beaver stumps, idiot stumps or a mix? I noticed the tree nearest to the fireplace at one of my last campsites was dead. I'm sure it will become an idiot stump this season. It's kind-of in the way now but as a stump it will be a menace! One year at another site we arrived to find a beaver had downed maybe 4-5 trees - all about six inch pines that shaded the point. I was a bit ticked at that darn beaver. Pines even! Anyway the next time I visited I was hoping for wonderful fishing due to the new cover... only to find all that was left was the stumps. Most are still there a dozen years later. They are thankfully out of the way - even add character. You said the stumps made a good fire. Ever heard of fatwood? I think it mostly comes from from Christmas tree stumps. Great fire starter! A little chunk lights easily even when wet and burns for a good long time. They even sell little boxes of it at Target. Roots burn a while. Did you notice if the stumps themselves were burning a little differently than regular wood does? If they were live when cut they should become fatwood - I think. So beaver stumps would burn better than the stumps of dead trees. Just a theory.
