Thanks for the offer of a drink, but unfortunately I won't get to make our trip until June 26. Which leads to another point to consider for your trip, or possibly a future trip. If you are going to pay for a tow, consider driving to Crane Lake, instead of Ely. You can get a tow from Anderson's across Lac La Croix to Bottle Portage which puts you on Iron Lake. Its 1/4 mi. of mud(not too deep)rocks & roots(aver Canadian port). On your way across Iron, stop & fish Rebecca Falls. The fish are so dumb there that last year my son(beginner fisherman) caught walleyes on topwaters in current below falls. Then portage around spectacular Curtain Falls(more good fishing)about 1/3 mi. into Crooked Lake. One not too tough day has you camping at Sat bay. You could basecamp & fish most of the bays on your trip. Just think, only 2 portages each way. You won't have to overhaul your motor. Good luck. Posted by old salt on June 04, 2002 at 19:07 |
