I've taken the Stanton Bay trip twice. I thought the portage was pretty tough, especially in regard to canoe carrying. We did it once in the rain. I am now giving thought to trading the Stanton Bay portage for the longer canoe trip out of French Lake. It seems to me that if one leaves French Lake by about 6 am, the strong winds that everyone complains about will be nil. Normally we camp near Emerald Island. Does anyone have any thoughts? How long is the canoe trip from French Lake to Emerald? I calculate about three hours given no nasty winds.
