Somebody is always going to snap a picture because it does look funny. But you'll get the last laugh after the smoke chases them out.

Another funny one is long underwear on under shorts, no dry long pants.
You got to do what works. Glad there's No dress code. Laughing at yourself helps too.

On BW sites, sometimes the grate is too high, so we take along an "S" hook shaped piece of old hanger wire, then use it to suspend pot or coffee pot down from grill, close to fire.  This also helps by adding free room on top if it is getting crowded with cooking pots.   

Another tip is using swim googles to keep the smoke out of the cook's eyes. Steel river trip, "Ready to cook".

Another option to the oven rack is two pipes. If I'm going with a group and plan on cooking over a fire that's what I take. I think it carries easier. They just get lashed to a thwart and stay there. You do want an old pole bag to put them in so the black soot doesn't get on everything. Flatten the ends slightly so they don't roll off the rocks. You can place them so you have a narrow spacing on one end and a wider spacing on the other, depending on you pot sizes. This a popular in the Temagami area in Canada.
