When Jack took up Muskie fishing in the 1990's and subsequently caught a few in the 50 inch range...he quit idly twaddling his bare feet in the water off the dock on warm summer days.   Grin

Scary??  I don't know; I'm thinking I could get into a challenge from a fish that weighed more than my canoe.  Of course, when the big fish is on, typically it is the OTHER guy in the canoe (IF there IS another guy) that gets to do the handling of that fish.

Makes me mindful of that scene in "Jeremiah Johnson" where the Will Geer character tells Jeremiah something like, "I catch'em & you clean'em"... just before he lures the live grizzly bear into his cabin to be "skinned & cleaned".

Anyway, I'd be OK with the "catching" part re: such a pike... depending upon how many people there were in my canoe.

The fact remains forty-two pounds is a scary big freshwater fish, even if you're not in a canoe.

This guy even de-lied it.  Most would just tell the story about the big boy that got away.
