Went in thru Stanton 2 years back. It is to the right (west) of the parking lot down a hill... find it really surprising that you couldn't find that trail! I did hear about a washout last year, perhaps with the lack of use caused by the washout the entrance has gotten a little more overgrown.

Am I the only one who finds it Ironic, that a put-in reserved for Canadians or people outfitted by Canadians, couldn't be FOUND by a Canadian Grin

Seriously though, I went in there 1 time, in 2006 I believe. The trail was as Mk631 described. Hard to miss then.

Maybe the area has been re-worked. Any of the outfitter in Atikokan should be able to tell you where you went astray.

Hmmm...I've gone in Stanton twice, most recently in 2008, but with an outfitter driving who pointed us to the trail -- which was off to the right of the lot we stopped at, down the hill.  There are some stairs once you get over the brim & then boardwalk later.
I'd provide GPS coordinates, but I didn't have my GPS on that early. -- scratch that -- I did have it on & here's the first several points, I think the first is in the parking lot & the next few are on the trail...

It shows mostly west from the lot and then due south for a bit...but by that time you're on the trail.
Good luck next time!  -Tom

I was in Qutico this past week and planned a trip for 4 days with entry point at Stanton Bay. I arrived at parking area but for the life of me could not locate the portage trail to the bay Angry.

I searched and took the trail to left of parking area thinking this was it but after a short trip with most gear found this to not be the portage trail.

I ended up back at Fench Lake and started my trip from here. So all was not lost but was not the trip I had planned.

My question is WHERE is the Portage can I get some help for my next trip Grin
