As a backpacker in hiatus I employed freeze dried food fairly often. While some are to be avoided like the plague others are pretty darn tootin good. I was given my first one by a kind couple after failing to connect with any fish on Isle Royale. I was cold and wet after having waded in the water for a couple of hours trying to bang dinner. The Lasagna was love at first bite.
Nice folk.

Anyway, there is quite a sale going this month.

The #10 size tins have my attention. At 6"x7" inches and coming in at about a pound with a week of single servings (supplemented with some wee little fishes of course) they just might be my ticket.

I can vouch for the Lasagna, pasta primo vera, sweet and sour pork and chili mac. Basically anything with rice or noodles is good. Avoid any stews and chicken tetrazini or ANYTHING with eggs! One good trick is to add 1" chunks of fish with anything that has the parmesan sauce.
