Thanks for the suggestions from both of you.  The topo idea is a good one, I think I might try to scour some old survey maps for clues.  I am planning looking for the mine site during a trip this summer.  I will let you know if I find anything.

most mines are indicated on standard topo maps, if they existed the last time the map was updated -  does not seem to matter if they are old and shut down
