there are four island campsites on Ogish,  the two west most would be unsuitable, 785 which is the first island after passing through a narrows which divides the lake may be suitable if it escaped the burn (I don't recall) there are only two campsites on the NW side of the lake which mostly escaped the fire, most campsites are on the SE side which were completely torched. Presently, the trees are about 6' tall max (aspen, birch)

My son and I stayed on Ogish in June of 2007.  The eastern side of Ogish was burned, but the western half was not.
The cut off started around sites C0790 and C0791.
We stayed on a island site (C0785) that was good.
Jasper was burnt and some of Alpine.

I plan to go to Ogish in mid-May.  I've been looking at the area on Google Maps, you can see where the forest fire was, and the hottest burned areas show lots of white boulder tops. 
I also thought it was interesting to look at Cache Bay, that particular frame looks like it was taken just before spring ice-out.  You can see that a northwest wind has pushed the ice floe away from the shore to the southeast and the areas that opened earlier where the water current runs.

Thanks for the info.  We'll have to reassess our destination.  Maybe paddle through to Knife.  I'll try to remember to post updated information when we return.

Ogish was scorched pretty good, I paddled the length of it fall 08, you will have a tough time finding a site you can hang 8 hammocks. I'd be surprised if you could find a site to hang 4, especially the east end.Not much survived the fire. I wanted nothing to do with the place and paddled through. Alpine would be a better choice, many campsites were spared or Knife which was missed by the fire. Forget Jasper too.

On the plus side I don't think you'll have much competition for campsites on Ogi

Planning a trip to Ogishkemuncie in June, 2011.  Wondering about the fire from 2007 and how the forest looks?  Is it all burned but recovering?  We typically camp with hammocks.  We are wondering if there were any trees surviving large enough to hang them.

We will be having a large party, 4 canoes and 8 people.  Any large campsites on Ogish?

Also any fishing info would be appreciated.  I put in a note to Stu at Boundary Waters Journal and he doesn't have any TRIPS info.
