A friend and I watched three kayakers make several attempts each, to run Lower Basswood Falls, and never were successful in staying upright all the way through. Paddlers unfamiliar with northern MN rivers should keep in mind that the rocks are jagged and sharp, not nice and smooth/rounded like other rivers might be. AND the deep pockets under water are filled with tough drift wood that can catch the boat and paddlers like fish in a net (under water).
