Last Summer I took a Quetico trip for the first time in 19 years. I took my 18 and 23 year old daughters on a 10 day trip from Beaverhouse through Veron and Delahey and finally out the Falls chain back to Saganaga. We went in on June 19th and went all the way out the Fall chain from Kawnipi on the 28th. If any of you were in the park during that time you know how unusual the conditions were. East wind for days and lots of rain. On our last morning a solo canoeist passed our campsite just up from Kennebas falls in Kawnipi. It was 8 AM and we were just about to go so we started to leap frog him on every portage as he was doubling them and we were only making a single trip. We chatted with him at many places. It became a game as we would shove off from a portage while lone man went back for another load. Pretty soon he would be catching up with us and we would all say "here comes lone man". Back and forth this went all the way up (or down by compass) the Falls chain until he really got ahead of us on Saganagons. But on the Silver Falls portage we got way ahead of him as he ate lunch after his first trip while we shoved off. But all the way across Cache bay and into Saganaga he slowly caught up and finally passed us just as we entered the channel. I am hoping he is on this list and remembers us or some one knows of him. He is from the Chicago area and was going to visit his mother in the Twin Cities since he was cutting his trip short due the tough weather. He is kind of a legend in our family now as "lone man " gets referred to whenever Quetico trips come up. I would like to correspond with him as I feel we are kindred spirits. We are busy planning Quetico 2012.
