I agree with you.  When asked about my opinion on the change for the recovery period, I told them they should keep those that way.

Weird, the first time I would have agreed so whole heartedly with them!  Grin

Thanks for the update.  The 2 distinct Lake One OP entry permits would have been good before the fire.  Glad USFS is making the move.

New/updated info after today's outfitter/cooperator meeting with the Forest Service:

New hours for Kawishiwi (Ely) permit center; May 1 - Sept 6, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

U.S. Custom (across street from permit center - May 26 - Sept 8, open from 8:30 to 4:30 pm

On May 1st, you can paddle from Lake One into & beyond Insula.  Until then, only up to Insula portage from Hudson.

The new Lake One 30F permit means no camping in Lakes 1, 2, 3, 4 or in Hudson, however with that permit you can camp in Fire and Bridge Lake (which is north of the Lakes chain).  You can also camp in Insula and beyond, but the Fire/Bridge was new to us until now.

An additional campsite is being developed on Slim Lake.
