I had sorta forgotten about it.
But now I am in it up to my neck again after an 8 year absence from my life. I have missed it, but I did not realize how much until now.
We discussed the trip many times over the past 6 months. I got our permits, found my maps, and even discussed past trips without having that feeling.
But we had our first get together of everyone going on the trip Sunday night. Now I have that feeling again. Stoked, excited, focused, obsessed(?) - immersed in the planning of and dreaming about our canoe trip to Quetico.
Reading over gear lists, checking and waterproofing tents, repairing the Coleman stove and lantern, replenishing and replacing first aid supplies - all chores, but I can't think of any chores I'll enjoy nearly as much. The pure and total entertainment and comfort of going through the fishing gear and remembering all the fish caught, lost, and lied about. The bonus of taking 2 of my kids with me and being able to see their excitement and my amazement as they actually WANT to hear my stories.
I really missed this feeling.
