This year I got to be on Lake Huron / east of Manitoulin Island a week after your trip ended & had high expectations. We got some pike & a lot of nice fat smallies in the same place in July 2011, but this fall we got almost nothing. -Tom
Tom, I have fished Georgian bay twice in the fall and did poorly both times.......not sure what to make of it. Perhaps the fish are following open water bait schools around. Very pretty area though.
Probably going to spend a week this june and try it again (or at least thats what the preliminary plans are).......just to fishy looking to strike out all the time. Paddling prospects are actually quite good in the area if you do the research and find some out of the way areas.

I have always wanted to do a Sept trip to Quetico because I've heard it's generally beautiful weather & great fishing. This year I got to be on Lake Huron / east of Manitoulin Island a week after your trip ended & had high expectations. We got some pike & a lot of nice fat smallies in the same place in July 2011, but this fall we got almost nothing. I wondered if Quetico in Sept 2012 was bad too, but it sounds like not, so I'll hold out for Quetico another September. -Tom

Hey All, Just returned fom my solo trip sept 5-12. These are the baits that worked well for me. Smallies: Chompers skirted grub 4" on t rig or 1/2 oz jig 8-18 ft deep. Original rapala trolled over suspended smallies 5". Rapala tail dancer black/gold #9 Walleye: Lindy watsit orange Silver worm harness, two split shot, northland impulse 4" leech trolled. Rapala #9 tail dancer bleach gold, trolled And of course jig head grub I used white with green head mostly for fish deeper than 16' holding on bottom. Pike: Only caught one! A 6-7 pounder on a smaller white blakemore roadrunner at the head of a stream on 5lb braid and light action rod/reel. FUN! I used an old lowrance x65 fish finder running on 8 AA's (energizer ultimate lithium) lasted 6 days avg 5 hrs/day. Hope this will be of use to some. Millhouse
