I posted a link up in the Current Conditions forum - open that and you can find lates ice out map, etc.

last year Saganaga was May 19th, Seagull was May 18th and the rest of the border lakes around the same time frame - but I'm thinking some of the Quetico lakes were a few days later

it was very late last year, but I don't remember the date

I had an entry reservation for Memorial Day last year, and changed it to a week later because of the late ice out

just guessing, it was about the 3rd week of May

MN DNR had a website map page that you could check on individual lakes ice out - and watch the progression from south to north - likely they will have the same this year.

Farmers Almanac is calling for a warmer than normal April and May...so I'm hoping, but I may take you up on the ice auger offer.

jimmar,

As it stands right now, I go IN on May 24 and come OUT on May 31st!  Will be happy to loan you my ice auger & sled on your way in, if you like?

Did a trip back in 1996 when the ice didn't come off until the day before... which was something like May 21st.  I remember seeing snow on the Cache Lake portage.

Lots of different factors play into ice-out, I'm thinking.  Clearly this year warrants a close watch.

So...I have a permit to enter Batchewaung on the first week of June (May 31 start). I'm beginning to wonder if the ice will even be out by then. I did a trip a few years back starting on May 15 the ice had just cleared.

Does anyone know the latest ice out date recently experience in Quetico?
