Declaring it is Spring doesn't make it Spring. It's still winter in SE MN. Kiss

Lots of migratory birds.  There is a bird that looks like a loon but has a different shaped head.  They would not let me get close enough to get a good look.

Mergansers???, Common, Red-Breasted, or Hooded, listed larger to smaller. I saw some Common & Hooded Mergansers on the river yesterday and I'm near a similar Lat as Chicago.

MP, If you ever want to see tons of Sand Hill Cranes try Jasper-Pulaski Fish & Wildlife Area south of you in Indiana in the fall. I'm not sure if they group there in the spring.

It may be spring somewhere....just not here in NE MN.....it will be a couple of weeks, say 12 or so, before anyone goes paddling in canoe country's south side....north of the border I would give it 15. Silver Lake in Virginia MN is beginning to open back up......problem is though it "normally" never freezes (due to the PUC plant) if that gives you a hint as to how cold it has been. Ice fishing for opener, open shorelines by Memorial Day, 55 degree water temps by mid-June.......I hope I am wrong
