but some years ice is on until the end of May.

I learned a lesson last spring. I've never seen ice on Beaverhouse in mid-May and NEVER want to see it again. Cry

Now that I don't have to worry about vacation time and start/stop times, I'll double check with Q-Dave and make sure the ice is off Warner Lk, which means that more than likely it would be off BH.

Only two months to open water.   I suppose, but some years ice is on until the end of May.  But hope springs eternal.

Hello Tim,

Thank you for writing us. I am happy that you already have your eyes set on summer and paddling!
This year the Lac LA Croix First Nation guides are permitted to use the following lakes for motorised guiding in Quetico Provincial Park – Motorised guiding is not permitted on any other lakes in 2015:

1)      Quetico
2)      Crooked
3)      Tanner
4)      Cirrus
5)      Minn
6)      Iron
7)      Wolseley
8)      Beaverhouse
9)      McAree
10)   Poohbah

On a related note, very few of these lakes are regularly used for motorised guiding and Lakes such as Beaverhouse and Quetico Lakes have not had guiding activity at all for the past two seasons. Don’t let the appearance of a lake on the motorised guiding list discourage you from visiting a lake or area that you really wish to explore. Once you get away from the lakes directly around Lac La Croix motorised guiding is quite rare these days.  If you ever do happen to run into a guide form Lac La Croix, the fellows the business are a friendly and wealth of knowledge about the park, fishing spots, and cultural information about the park and surrounding area. They like to meet and to talk with Quetico paddlers.

I hope you have a wonderful trip this summer. If you have any more questions while you plan your trip, we have a trip planning telephone line at the park which is answered Mon-Friday. The number to call is (807) 597-2735. Only 2 months until open water season!

Happy paddling

Trev

I also found the First Nations website,
You could drop them a E-mail and see what happens?

Thanks ST.
i've seen lake lists a few times when not looking for them, then when i wanted one, couldn't find it.   last week i posted the question on the QPP office web site. it didn't take long for me to get impatient for an answer so thought to check with you guys. never knew they had that many lakes that they could choose from. interesting. from a walleye central forum nonetheless.

I found this on Wikipedia.
I don't know how accurate it is or if the 2015 date is still relevant.

Quote:
The park has been completely protected from logging since 1971. Motor vehicles, including boats, were banned in the Quetico in 1979, with the exception of the Lac La Croix Guides Association, part of the Lac La Croix First Nation, which is allowed to operate power boats with engines no more than 10 horsepower (7.5 kW) on Quetico, Beaverhouse, Wolseley, Tanner, Minn, and McAree Lakes. The official plan (Agreement of Coexistence) is to phase out motorized guiding activities by the Lac La Croix First Nation in Quetico Provincial Park through simple attrition by the year 2015.

The First Nation and the Ontario government pick the lakes every season.

Scroll down about half-way on this link, and it has a list of the lakes they choose from. It also specifies which ones can have planes land and how many motorized boats on any given lake. I couldn't find a source for the current year, but there is a contact number for the LLC Guide Association. They or the park office in Atikokan should know.
