I have marked the Canoecopia dates on the calendar. Depending on how the trip to Europe this fall goes, I am thinking hard about flying up to Madison in March for the event.
Best wishes for your son's safe return. He will definitely be earning the paycheck.

Full time RV'er. Very interesting.... It would be cool if you could join us in Madison WI. in March at Canoecopia. You mentioned that you need more gear, at this show everything there is discounted.
Have you ever paddled in a solo canoe?
Tom BTW, my son is Army and currently doing a stint in Afghanistan. He just got there last weekend. He went through the Q course and has funny stories about passing Land Nav.

Welcome aboard! Anytime you are on QJ, you're in the right place.
Canoecopia is kind of a modern day 'Voyaguers Rendezvous'. For the past few years, we have rented a meeting room at the Country Inn & Suites for dinners and to be able to visit and plan canoe trips. If you can get to Madison, WI March 9-11, you will have a great time. I am confident that we will follow this format again next March. I hope to meet you there.

Outlander, To perk someone's interest you will need to disclose more about yourself and what kind of trip you want. For example, your age, where you live, fish or not fish, base camp, length of trip or travel and experience would be a start.

DentonDoc has laid it out pretty well for you, I think, so "ditto" to everything he said.
Another observation: the more you post and read, the more people get to know you & you them. Pretty soon you're exchanging IM's from folks wanting to chew over ideas, etc., and that can lead to planning trips together, too.
Welcome to QJ!

I'd think the "Rendezvous in the Boundary Waters and Quetico" Forum would be the most likely place for this type of discussion. While you are there, it would probably be helpful to fill out as much of the "Member Profile" (in a thread by the same name in that forum) as you are willing to share. It is kind of the first step in establishing "compatibility" of like minded travelers.
Then you might start a thread in the same forum that establishes as much of the details as you can establish about your planned trip ... estimate of travel dates, trip duration, ideas for routes, travel versus layover preferences, level of flexibility on each, and the like.
Many of us have also used Canoecopia as a mechanism for a "meet and greet" and working on more details, especially during our normal evening get-togethers at one of the local hotels in Madision.
