That’s the annual question... Cool There’s always a chance the curtains will part, revealing da boss. It may help to leave a cake offering... Cool

Let the celebrations begin! Yes! Celebrations!  Cool

We will have cake both nights! Friday and Saturday! I know that will leave some of you in a conundrum of epic proportions! You’ll just have to muscle your way through it and eat cake both nights! Aarrgh!  Cool

We will cut the Friday cake about 7 or whenever we decide to. If you want pictures of these epic cakes and the hearty souls who will partake in the festive feast, bring your camera or cell phone.  Cool Better yet, bring your appetites and a friend. Cool

As Marie Antoinette told Mark Anthony, “Let them eat cake”. And we will.

My story is somewhat similar to PJ's.

My first actual canoe trip was in 2001, when I was looking for an alternative to backpacking (mostly in the Rockies) as my 60th birthday approached.  That 2001 trip to Quetico sealed the deal and upon returning home, I began to cast about the internet seeking whatever information about canoeing that area I could find (I've always been a "know before you go" kind of guy).

It didn't take long to find the QJ site, where I lurked for a time, until joining up in 2003.  It wasn't too long after that that DB asked me to become a moderator.  I was a bit hesitant at first, feeling that I had little other than by backpacking experience to offer to what appeared to me to be a seasoned group of paddlers.  However, a meeting with DB was arranged on I trip I had planned to Milwaukee and I was convinced to "sign on the dotted line."

Yep, I'm still here and checking the site on a daily basis.  This is clearly a testament to the value of the content of the site, but for me there was the additional value of having "comrades in arms" to share the experience with ... some of whom it has been my pleasure to share several bush campfires with.

So I think it is safe to say that I will be hanging around here until the doors close or I draw my last breath. Smiley

Thanks from here too db!  I've enjoyed and learned much by reading the forum over the years.
It's hard to believe I joined in 2004.  Seems like yesterday.

In June 2002 we we're in the Atikokan - Park Headquarters waiting for permits.  Back then there was a public computer that you could use in the entry office and my buddy pulled up QJ to check the portage data base.  I thought that QJ was such a cool website that when I got home, I checked it out, lurked on the forum for a while, posted anonymously under various names and had a ton of fun.  Since then, the forum has been a daily visit.  What a resource.  Thanks DB!!
