I agree with you Bill and Mossback and Lynda but....MAN I'm diggin' Solus's last post. Finally someone can articulate that scenario. Thank you Solus. Fine work my friend.
I will yield my time as to not slide further into the rabbit hole.
You agree with us, TomT, but you have to get in one more "dig" before you take off. This will go on and on. . .and I am out of here.
It wasn't a dig it was recognition of a fellow paddler's articulation. I've felt that way (Solus's post) for a long time but was never able to put it into words and when I saw that he COULD I just wanted to commend him for that. No dig. You don't want me to post any digs. My frustration level is maxed out.
I don't care if you post digs or not, TomT. I am going to quit clicking on this thread now and leave you guys to your discussion. My frustration level is also maxed out, and I don't come to QJ for political discussion.
It just seemed odd to me that you agreed with me in the quote and then went ahead with the argument. A political argument.
From now on I'll just look at the POD each morning and let the rest of it go. Carry on.

I've stayed in Lean -to's a couple of times. Once on the Appalachian Trail in Maine and a few times hiking Isle Royale which I did 3 times.
The Isle Royale shelters were on small lakes and my group of 4 had them all to ourselves.
The one time we stayed in Maine another group showed up and they wanted to stay in the shelter too.
It was 8 people plus their dog which made for some cramped quarters plus some ill feelings before we all left the next day. I ended up setting my tent up on the edge of the site to have some privacy.
If you can get one for yourself of just your group they are indeed a nice respite from setting a tent/tarp camp.

Back to the topic (heaven forbid) while New York State has closed it's state parks and campgrounds, and of course play grounds, shelters (pavilions e.g. not lean-tos) and buildings including fire towers, most of the dispersed and primitive camping is open. Seems reasonable to me. I've taken advantage of a few of the many state forests and wildlife management areas for day hikes and paddles, but not overnight yet. I'm sure there are some which are popular, but somehow the ones I've visited are nearly unused by others. Some are gems for hiking or paddling up to 10 miles or so, and a few permit primitive camping. Looking forward to a leanto overlooking a lake.
